#1 - CMA 6.0 Report #4: By John Palmisano [CSA]

(I) - After many downloads of both the trial and registered versions plus CD-R sales, I am happy to state that this new version 6.0 is off to a very successful start and is proving to be quite stable over a wide range of hardware and Windows O.S. versions. One minor bug has been identified, see below MINOR 6.0 BUG IDENTIFIED for a complete explanation and easy work around.

(II) - An updated PLANT.DAT file is available. More build plants have been identified and their codes added to the database. This .dat file will work with both the 5.0 and 6.0 versions. Download PLANT.ZIP and put it in the same folder as the CMA5.EXE or CMA6.EXE file. It will automatically copy over the old PLANT.DAT file, so if you wish to keep it, rename it to OLDPLANT.DAT first. The new file will automatically be used in all searches the next time you restart the Analyzer, but when using the view button the old data will appear. This is because the view data is hard coded into the main executable file and cannot be changed until a program update. The trial version is also updatable. All new patches will be posted on the CMA Patch Page.

(III) - The Mustang Clubs Database was removed from the new 6.0 version to be better able to keep it up to date. It is now located online and is still organized by state, but in a much easier to use format. Also worth mentioning is now when you click on a clubs link it will take you to that clubs home page where you will have direct access to the clubs contact information, which should always be up to date since it is maintained by the clubs themselves. Find a Mustang Club in your state.Mustang Club Database You can easily bookmark or download this page to your own computer, but remember the links are active and you must be connected to your ISP (Internet Service Provider such as AOL) in order to use them.

CMA version 6.0 has been released.
Download the 30-day trial versions in either  CMA 30-Day Trial .ZIP  or in   CMA 30-Day Trial .EXE  self expanding edition.

A) - MINOR 6.0 BUG IDENTIFIED

BUG # 6.0-1 When using the analyzer search engines built in to the BuckTag, Door Dataplate, Paint, or VIN Analyzer's, please use the LEFT SEARCH BUTTON first all of the time. If you receive a "not found" response, then use the RIGHT SEARH BUTTON. The problem associated with this item is that there is no clear direction on how to run your code search. This will be ammended in the next update. Here is what happens if you do not follow the above directions. The search engine will continue to search for several minutes if it is not at the beginning of the database, thereby wasting your time. Searching left first insures starting at the beginning thereby searching the entire database correctly.

NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Pocono:

Ricky Rudd, driver of the No. 28 Texaco Havoline Taurus, passed Dale Jarrett with 24 laps remaining to gain his first victory since joining Robert Yates Racing just prior to the 2000 season.

Rudd, who recorded the 21st victory of his NASCAR Winston Cup career, last won on Sept. 27, 1998 at Martinsville (88 races ago) when he was the owner/driver of the No. 10 Tide Taurus. The win was Ford's seventh of the 2001 season, which ties Chevrolet for the most victories this season. In addition, it marked the 49th all-time victory for the Taurus, which made its debut in 1998, and 519th overall for Ford -- most of any manufacturer.

2- ALLDATA.COM   [THIS MIGHT BE THE MOST IMPORTANT SITE YOU EVER VISIT]

ALLDATA.COM is so important, I urge you all to visit it and bookmark it as soon as possible. ALLDATA.COM simply speaking is a large database. The database lists all major auto manufacturers and goes back in most cases more than twenty years. What's in this important database you ask? All safety, emissions, and general recalls for every specific car and engine plus all TSBs ever issued per model, that's what. If you don't know what a TSB is the letters stand for Technical Services Bulletin. Manufacturers issue thousands of these every year, but they can be hard to find and hard to get hold of. You may be missing out on important information about your car. Factory TSBs provide you with information to address safety, reliability, performance and comfort related problems about your car, updated factory repair procedures, special warranty provisions and extensions, and fixes for common problems specific to your vehicle. Using ALLDATA.COM you can be informed about all areas of concern affecting your car. Take action to ensure that your vehicle is running safely and efficiently. ALLDATA.COM is a most comprehensive resource for the car enthusiast. If you have ever had a car dealer tell you this is the first time he ever heard of a problem on your car, the TSBs can be a very powerful tool to fight back with. ALLDATA has a free area to check to see if there are any recalls or TSBs concerning your car, and it provides you with a titled list of them. However, to have access to them and other information there is a subscription fee. I must admit, I only used the free area. If any of our members subscribe to this service now or in the future, plese let me know the value it has for you and I will pass this information along in the newsletter.

3- MP3 SONGS TO SEARCH FOR BY YEAR

BASIC INFORMATION: Would you like to have songs that go with your classic Mustang's year? If you have your own CD Writer and burn your own CD-R's this might come in helpful. To download MP3 files, first you have to locate them. Try using Napster (download at Napster.com)or Imesh (download at imesh.com). You also need to be able to convert your MP3's to .wav files before you burn them onto the CD-R as they will not play on your car CD player in MP3 format. To change them into .wav files use WinAmp also downloadable at Softseek.com. All programs are now free by the way, but Napster might start charging for there service soon. If you just want to play the MP3 files on your computer all you need is Napster. Windows Media Player, Real Player and Imesh the new kid on the block also can play them. Search for songs by title or by artist. Look for more songs listed by year in future CMA Newsletters. Next issue 1978-1979 songs.

4- CMA NEWSLETTER LIST EMERCENCY

IMPORTANT NOTICE

I was notified on Friday June 22, 2001 that Microsoft's bCentral list server will shut down as of August 6, 2001. Needless to say first I panicked, then I immediately made new arrangements with Bravenet to support our CMA Newsletter List. In order to do this however, you must follow the instructions that they sent or will be sending to you. Although I imported all names currently on the voluntary list, legally speaking you must provide your opt-in permission. Once Bravenet has this we will be up and running with the new server. The next Newsletter is due out soon and I'll probably send it via the bCentral Listbot service for the last time. Please be sure to respond to Bravenet's opt-in request to keep on receiving the CMA Newsletter. If you don't respond and change your mind later, you will have to sign up again. The sign up form on the CMA website has been updated to the Bravenet system.

If you signed up after this date on the old bCentral Listbot server, please sign up again on the new Bravenet server. If you have not responded to the Bravenet opt-in email, please do so. You will not receive any more news from me after August 6, 2001 unless you are part of the new newsletter/list server system.

5- MUSTANG OF THE MONTH

I would like to add a new feature to the CMA website. I designed a pop-up style welcome window that, what else but, pops-up at the opening of the home page to provide users with some important information that they might leave the site without knowing if they didn't see it right off the bat. I know that pop-ups can by their nature be annoying, so I decided that this shall remain an awareness or alert pop-up and will definately not be used for click away banner ads of any type. Also, to make it more exciting and interesting to look at I decided to use it as a place to display a nice Mustang photo. I don't want to have to change it too often, and so it becomes the perfect viewing area for a Mustang or Ford of the month. Here's the catch though, I'll run out of space on my hard drive downloading photo images from emails and also don't wish to download a virus in the process. Here is what I propose. If you would like to have a picture of your Mustang seen by every person that logs on to the CMA home page during a one month period, then send me an email with the website address or URL of the photo. An example would look something like this: "http://www.yourdomain.com/jeffsmustang.jpg" without the quotes of course. Then I can view the photos without having to download them, unless I think they are acceptable for display. If your photo is picked, I'll notify you by email and let you know when it will be displayed. I'll also include any photos chosen on future CD-R's. For an example of what the Mustang of the Month feature might look like, go to the CMA home page and wait for the pop-up.
