DEARBORN, Mich., May 10 – A red convertible 2004 Ford Mustang GT, the last vehicle built at the historic Dearborn Assembly Plant, rolled off the assembly line today, marking the end of production at one of the world's oldest manufacturing plants.

The last vehicle built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant, a 2004 Ford Mustang GT, rolls off the assembly line.
HISTORY OF DEARBORN ASSEMBLY PLANT
Ford's oldest plant, opened in 1918, ends production as last Mustang rolls off the line. Dearborn Assembly, long recognized as the cornerstone of Ford's great Rouge Center, exemplifies the best of Ford's plants, people and products. Mustang production moves this fall to AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Mich. Employees transfer to the new Dearborn Truck Plant.
Opened in 1918, Dearborn Assembly Plant (DAP) has long stood as the cornerstone of Ford's legendary Rouge Center. The plant will close as the company opens its newest plant, Dearborn Truck Plant (DTP), which recently began building the 2004 Ford F-150.
Fred Galicki, (listen to Fred himself) a 32-year employee, was selected by his fellow workers to drive the car off the line. With him was Oscar Hovsepian, a Ford retiree with 37 years of service, who drove the first Mustang off the line in 1964. The 79 year old Oscar Horespian (Hahf-sep-ee-an) was the first Mustang worker to drive, what eventualy became an American Icon, off the line in 1964 and says he remembers it, "like it was yesterday."
Hundreds of employees walked with the car as it reached the end of the assembly line. The employees will be transferred to the nearby Dearborn Truck Plant. Mustang production will move to AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Mich., this fall.
"This is a historic day for our people, our plant and the great product we've been building here for 40 years," said Rob Webber, plant manager of Dearborn Assembly and Dearborn Truck plants. "Our workforce has always taken great pride in the products they have built since this plant opened in 1918. And today is no exception."
Dearborn Assembly has built 6.7 million Mustangs in 40 years.
Dearborn Assembly is being decommissioned with a portion of the structure dedicated for historical preservation. Preservation plans will be announced at a later date.
About Dearborn Assembly Plant

During its final year, the plant employed approximately 2,000 hourly employees and 175 salaried employees on two shifts. The plant had nearly 3.4 million square feet and 10 miles of assembly line, sitting on 47 acres.

BENICIA, Calif. (May 19, 2004) - In conjunction with the 40th birthday of the Ford Mustang, 1-888-Radiator, the nation's primary independent supplier of radiators to consumers, home mechanics, and auto repair shops, has released the Mustang Muscle Radiator Upgrade Kit, a new do-it-yourself installation package to customize the cooling systems for any Mustang, including GTs, Cobras, and classic Mustangs. The upgrade kit was specially designed for Mustang enthusiasts who want to super-size their cooling system for high performance.
Mustangs are designed to run hotter than most engines, typically generating enough heat to warm two small houses. High-performance upgrades add stress to the cooling system that can damage engine parts, and while stock radiators last an average of five to seven years, the life of a radiator in a high-performance Mustang is even less. With the Mustang Muscle Radiator Upgrade Kit, do-it-yourself mechanics can swap out the cooling system in less than an hour. The result is less engine wear, better compression and more power, better gas mileage, and improved emissions.
"The Mustang is an American automotive legend and we provide more radiator parts for vintage and late model Ford Mustangs than any other American supplier," said Mike Rippey, president of 1-888-Radiator. "We developed the Mustang Muscle Radiator Upgrade Kit to accommodate all Mustangs, especially those who need the added cooling capacity of 30% more rows of heat transfer fins."
The Mustang Muscle Radiator Upgrade Kit comes in three basic configurations. The 1964 to 1969 Mustangs featured either two- or three-row radiator cores so the upgrade kit comes with a heavy-duty three-row core radiator for prices starting at $169. The 1971-1972 Mustangs feature multiple engine types with both two-and three-row cores, but the experts at 1-888-Radiator can match the radiator kit for any model for prices starting at $195. For 1979-1993 Mustangs, 1-888-Radiator offers a two-row and three-row radiator upgrade kits for prices starting at $99.
The Mustang Muscle Radiator Upgrade Kit usually arrives within 24 hours and all parts carry 1-888-Radiator's lifetime warranty. Each piece is a "drop-in" fit, requiring little to no modifications, and customers who have purchased other 1-888-Radiator kits in the past say that with socket wrenches, screwdrivers, and radiator fluid, they were able to replace their Mustang stock radiator in less than 30 minutes. This ultimate improvement kit contains a Mustang radiator, connecting clamps, hoses, cap, and installation instructions.
