--->Tip #21: USING THE NEW CMA SEARCH ENGINE FEATURE

Did you know that there is a wealth of information about Mustangs on the CMA website as well as in our software programs? If you own or are just interested in a particular year or type of Mustang, why not use the search engine to locate articles, images, or perhaps links for it. For instance if you put 1965 in the search box, then you will get a nice reference list of articles, photos, images, clipart, links etc. for it all in one convenient location. Something a little more rare perhaps, how about Gold Nugget Special, SVO, SVT, Saleen, or Shelby. You needn't stick to years or models. How about various parts? Try engine, tires, wheels, doors etc. Just about anything you can think of regarding Mustangs. When or if a search fails because there is no information for that item, a report about that will be used to guide us in to what new information need to be added. Don't forget there is a direct link to the website built right into CMA 5.0, so if the information you need is not within the program you can now go right to the website and carry out a search. This addition makes CMA a more powerful tool.

3- MP3 SONGS TO SEARCH FOR 1964-1965

BASIC INFORMATION: Would you like to have songs that go with your classic Mustang's year? If you have your own CD Writer and burn your own CD-R's this might come in helpful. To download MP3 files, first you have to locate them. Try using Napster (download at Napster.com) or Scour (try Softseek.com). You also need to be able to convert your MP3's to .wav files before you burn them onto the CD-R as they will not play on your car CD player in MP3 format. To change them into .wav files use WinAmp also downloadable at Softseek.com. All programs are now free by the way, but Napster might start charging for there service soon. If you just want to play the MP3 files on your computer all you need is Napster or Scour. Newer versions of Windows Media Player and Real Player also can play them. Search for songs by title or by artist. Look for more songs listed by year in future CMA Newsletters. Next issue 1966-1967 songs.

4- NEW SEARCH ENGINE ADDED

Have you noticed that the CMA website now contains a search box? The search engine working quietly behind our search box is Atomz.com. If you have had the opportunity to use it, I'm sure you noticed how fast it found an indexed the items that you searched for. The search engine has been added for several reasons. Primarily it's to help our site visitors to locate items they need quickly, now that the CMA site has grown in size. Secondly, to help me organize the site the way users such as you think. By running reports I can see which items are being searched for most and how the searches are phrased. By analyzing this input I can put the most popular information in higher levels (less clicks for you) and use vocabulary that people most often use to make searches easy and less confusing.

By the way, the search box on top of the frames menu can search the whole site and the box on the newsletter page is restricted to searching only the newsletters to save time.

One person recently requested the location of the article I recently ran on the old Mahwah, NJ Ford Plant. Honestly, I couldn't remember which newsletter it was it so I had to search through a couple to find it. Now you can try this for yourself, put just the word Mahwah in the CMA Home Page search box and the link to it will appear almost instantly. Try some other "key search words" while you are there just to see how great a tool this can be for Mustang enthusiasts. Also see this month's Insider Tip #21 regarding the search engine.

5- WHAT'S IT WORTH? - 1969 (FIFTH IN SERIES)

1969 MUSTANG FAIR GOOD EXCELLENT
HARDTOP 2300 3850 6350
SPORTSROOF 3175 5300 8750
CONVERTIBLE 5800 9500 15925
MACH 1 6500 10200 16325

Editor's Note: Those of you who are registered users can read or reread the section about classic Mustang pricing in the Analyzer. Using a certified classic car appraiser is the best idea, because many folks just don't know what to look for. Using a professional is well worth the price. You can usually find one in one of the local clubs. Please use this series as an updated guide to the prices contained in the current version of CMA.

The ratings are fair, good, and excellent to simplify things although many professionals use a one to five rating with five being the lowest. So you can correlate this to three, two, and one because anything less is really not worth the investment unless it's a very rare or valuable model. Fair would represent a car in driving condition, but in need of restoration. Good represents a show car in what most people might consider mint condition with some minor flaws. Excellent represents a show car in what the MCA might call Thoroughbred class condition. What that means in some cases is better than showroom condition with all original parts or factory original replacement parts. All markings, tags and decals are correct in every detail.

6- TRIM GUILD RACING

TrimGuild Racing Logo

Trim Guild, Inc. has created a web presence for it's innovative Mustang Dress Up and Performance Division, Trim Guild Racing. The new site is located at http://trimguildracing.com, and offers custom show and racing car parts. What sets this unique site apart is that all of the products on the site were created and developed by Trim Guild Racing, to use on their own cars. The 1983 Mustang Convertible shows in the MCA, Modified/Driven division and is seen all over the Southeast during show season. The 1986 Mustang is a drag car that competes in NMCA's Super Street class.

"All of the parts we sell were created to solve a problem on our show or race car", says Mike Keown (Mustang Mike). "We were faced with situations where there weren't any 'off the shelf' solutions to either an appearance or performance challenge, so we developed our own." "Some of our creations fail, but some are winners. The winners are carefully developed and even patented, in some instances, and then will be offered to Mustang Lovers around the world. Like our Hood Hinge Firewall Bezels! I had the first set of prototype Hood Hinge Bezels Hood Hinge Bezelscut from billet aluminum to cover the ugly area where the hood hinge attaches to the firewall, polished them and took the car to a show. Everyone at the show wanted to know where they could get a pair for their car. That's when I knew it was a winner. The same thing happened with the unique aluminum dash panel we built. We are a little more secretive with our performance parts, but there are some that we will be offering in the near future. All of them are "185 mph" tested!"

At this time, Trim Guild does not have any jobber/dealer arrangements and all sales are direct. We want to insure to customer satisfaction with the products and the way to do that is to have direct contact with the end user. If a customer calls for advice or assistance, most likely they will be speaking with Mike himself.

Mike states that four more parts in development. These parts were requested by our customers and had wide appeal, plus we think they would look and perform great. Trim Guild has a program to include new inventors in their operation. We actively solicit people with original/patentable ideas for Mustang parts to join our efforts. If their idea leads to a salable product, they share in the profits and ownership of the product. This gives the end user an opportunity to share the benefits of an outstanding idea.

Trim Guild welcomes comments and suggestions to improve our products and exposure on the web. We, of course, welcome referrals and links to our site and will reciprocate with appropriate web sites.

7- OLD CAR MYTHS DIE HARD

Premium Gas Is Required For V-8's To Run Best

According to Les Jackson in the January-February 2001 Edition of Modern Maturity the answer is NO !
Les claims that higher octane gas produces no more energy than regular gas. He states that high octane gas is designed to burn efficiently in high compression engines and that when used in a normal compression engine can result in incomplete combustion, less power, carbon fouling and wasted money. Only five percent of engines sold today require premium gasoline due to higher than normal compression. If the manufacturer does not require the use of high-test gasoline, Les advises all of us to avoid the temtation to use it. Of course I have been using premium in my 1989 Mustang LX-Sport 5.0 since new. What do I think? Well I'm thinking that Les may be right. I have had constant problems with the carbon fouling of my EGR valve. Other's I have spoken to have also complained of this bothersome problem. For general stop and go city driving I am inclined to agree with Mr. Jackson. If you have any opinions about this, please let me know and I'll pass along the general consensus in the next newsletter.

Oil Must Be Changed Every 3,000 Miles

Again, according to Les, NO ! It's also a big waste of money. Why, you ask? Due to electronic ignition, fuel injection, new engine design, and cleaner fuels the oil will last much longer. Les states that most cars can go 6,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. Check your owner's manual and stick to it to save money and time. According to manufacturer's recommendations, no damage or excessive wear will occur. Again, I've always changed my oil every 3,000 miles or sooner and have used the higher priced Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I have had very good luck with this method and am reluctant to change. The last time I had my engine opened up there was absolutely no sign of sludge deposits or wear and tear. I think this depends on how hard you drive your car. Stop and go in hilly areas is very hard on oil and engine wear.
