B) - CMA CD-R USER TIP

From time to time we receive inquiries as to how to access the extra files and folders included on the CD-R. If you purchased your CD-R through a reseller, it may not have come with any install or start up instructions, because the CD-R is set up to start up upon insertion. When the CD-Rom tray is pushed in the CD-R will or should autostart. To view the extras or to install if you keep autostart disabled on your computer, follow these instructions. After inserting the CD-R, open My Computer. Highlight your active CD-Rom drive and right click your mouse on it. Choose EXPLORE to access the Setup.exe file or the Extras Folder.

C) - MODEM TECH TIP

Do you have a 56k modem that connects at a slow connection speed? I have found out that many of the CMA members have modems that regularly connect at 28.8 or 33.1 connection speeds all the time. Most of you live with this problem because you have been told that your phone lines are degraded and nothing can be done about it. Hogwash! First off, if you suspect your phone lines are at fault, then call the phone company and demand that they come and test them. They have a meter that can tell them if your lines have too much resistance or not. If they do, ask them to replace them. After all they are suppose to provide you with the highest quality of service. By the way, before you call, check your phone line connections for dust. Yes, dust in the wire connections can interfere with your modem connection and speed. The next thing you can do is visit  Modemsite.com and find your modem's manufacturer and model number. Then download the most up to date driver and follow their instructions on how to install it properly. They have excellent trouble shooting information and advice. If you modem can be upgraded to V.90 or V.92 they will let you know that as well. My Lucent LT Win Modem which is two years old is a 56k modem that was doing exactly what I described above. After following the Modemsite advice, I was able connect regularly at a speed of 41.3. I upgraded my modem from the 56 k-flex standard to the better V.90 standard, which is more reliable. I also downloaded the newest driver set and followed their installation instructions, which worked perfectly. It was worth the approximately one hour effort since my speed has been greatly improved, using my old modem, thus saving me the time plus expense of buying and installing a new one. All is free and the site is easy to navigate and understand.

2- FORD MEDIA NEWS

The new 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT is a throwback to the 1968 Mustang GT 390 that co-starred with Steve McQueen in the movie Bullitt. The new Mustang's increased performance, front grille and deeper exhaust note harken back to '60's Mustangs. Click the thumbnail image to view a full screen high resolution image.

3- MUSTANG OF THE MONTH

Click on the thumbnail image to view a larger version.

Mustang of the Month  The feature Mustang...is Tim Gustafson's 1970 Fastback Mustang.  You might remember Tim was one of last months American flag photo winners with his SVT F-Series Lightning  truck photo. This month he would like to show everyone he does also own a great looking Mustang. Tim also informed me that his Mustang was in the bodyshop and that's why there is no flag on it, it's an older photo. Thanks Tim!

Don't forget to send in your Mustang photo for the Mustang of the month section and also some information about it as well. I'm getting low on images so you have a good chance of being selected.

4- THE FORD COLLECTION

The Ford Collection

The Ford Collection is a catalog company licensed by the Ford Motor Company to sell anything and everything with Ford brand logos imprinted on the items. The company sells mostly clothing, jewelry, die-cast models and other unique items such as golf balls with the Mustang, Ford, Thunderbird, SVT, and other company name logos printed on them. The items do seem a little pricey, but they seem to be of high quality and not your run of the mill items. Beautiful shirts, hats and jackets are among the items sold. Many of you have asked where you can find the "Uptown Motors Ford Display" by Department 56, well you can find it here for $95. It's number S10203 in there catalog and I could not locate one anywhere else. It's a real nice Christmas item. Fortunately, they do have an online presence and you can also receive a free color catalog that is quite nicely done, I might add. To receive yours, send your request to The Ford Collection, PO Box 19787, Birmingham, Al 355219-0787. To contact them directly, call 1-800-444-4503.

5- MORE VIDEOS

I came across an interesting article in last months Mustang Times that listed some more movies that featured Mustangs as part of their story lines. The movies in no particular order were Goldfinger, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, Starman, Basic Instinct, Twins,Coming Home, Bull Durham, Malone, Innerspace, and Assassins. After reading the article, I added them into our video section. To find out more about them, including the type of Mustang featured, the stars, and availability on either DVD or VHS tape, please click here More Mustang Videos.

6- SYNTHETIC OIL AND NEW MUSTANGS

Art Hyde the Mustang Chief Program Engineer answered a question recently in his Team Mustang column. The writer wanted to know if synthetic oil, such as Mobil 1 is compatible with new Mustang engines. Art's answer was yes, but what surprised me was the caveat or warning he added to it. He went on to say that if anyone uses synthetic oil in a new Mustang, first it must meet the Ford specification for oil (SL/GF3 5W-30) and the oil change interval must remain at 5,000 miles normal use or 3,000 miles for severe duty use or the warranty can be voided.

Now, the reason this surprised me is that the synthetic oil manufacturers claim the oil is worth the extra expense because you can go 6,000 to 10,000 miles between changes. Art claims Motorcraft oil is developed to provide the best overall lubrication. So, you have to ask yourself, knowing this is synthetic oil such as Mobil 1, or Castrol worth the extra expense. Please use the comment area to let us know your feelings on this.
